IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT!

From our President Peter Hranek

You may have seen the new story about the Trump administration offering buyouts for all federal employees. You might see the email if you haven’t already. AFGE National is looking into it. Do not accept a buyout until we can determine if it is even real. Remember that Congress controls the money and this was not passed as a law or appropriation. As things stand so you WILL NOT get paid the 7 months severance if you resign.

Tell your coworkers this, member or not. Also, if you hear that someone put in their resignation, tell them that they can withdraw it.

Here’s AFGE National President Everett Kelley’s message:

“We are aware that federal employees have received an email from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) encouraging them to resign from federal service and offering possible incentives
for doing so.

We are evaluating these developments and will provide further guidance soon. In the meantime we are encouraging all members and civil servants not to make a hasty decision to resign and not
to respond to this email until you have further details.

We will follow up with additional information as it becomes available to us.”

Buyouts will result in unintended consequences that will cause chaos for Americans

Today, in response to reports that President Trump will be offering buyouts to all federal employees, AFGE National President Everett Kelley issued the following statement:

“The number of civil servants hasn’t meaningfully changed since 1970, but there are more Americans than ever who rely on government services. Purging the federal government of dedicated career civil servants will have vast, unintended consequences that will cause chaos for the Americans who depend on a functioning federal government. This offer should not be viewed as voluntary. Between the flurry of anti-worker executive orders and policies, it is clear that the Trump administration’s goal is to turn the federal government into a toxic environment where workers cannot stay even if they want to.”
